22 AutoMill HP ™ P R O D U C T M A N U A L EN Step 11. Click Calibrate on the Axis Calibration Screen (Figure 33). Step 12. Recut the same board 3 inches shorter and measure the H3 height. If the cut dimension matches the commanded dimension Head 3 is calibrated. If not repeat steps 1 to 12. 4.3. Angle Calibration Procedure Angle calibration is performed in the following order: 1. Head 2,3 (Control Angles 2,3) – Section 4.3.1 2. Head 1,4 (Control Angles 1,4) – Section 4.3.2 3. Head 5 (Controls Angle 5) – Section 4.3.3 NOTE Only make angle adjustments at this time. No other adjustments should be attempted until all the angles have been properly calibrated. ! CAUTION All lumber used for the calibration process should be straight and free from defects. Section 1.2 explains how to determine if a piece of lumber is straight. 4.3.1. Head 2,3 Angle Calibration Step 1. Turn the Key Switch to SETUP (Section 2.3). Step 2. Select SEMI on the Main Menu (Figure 5). Step 3. On the Board Select Menu (Figure 14) setup a two-cut chord as shown in Figure 35. Figure 35 • Set Angle 1 and 2 to 45 • Set Height 1 to 0-3-8 • Set OA Len to 10-0-0 NOTE The remaining length values will calculate automatically. 4.2.2. Calibration Example Suppose this bottom chord is cut: Upon measurement, the H3 height (circled) is measured to be 1.69" instead of the commanded value of 1.75". The difference between the commanded value and the actual cut dimension differ by 0.06" (1/16th). Any value under the commanded value is considered "low" and values above are "high." NOTE Record the difference between the measured value and the commanded value to the nearest 1/16th of an inch as well as if it is low or high. This will be valuable later in the calibration process. The label H3 indicated that Head 3 was used to make this particular cut. For this example Head 3 must be re- calibrated to correct the 1/16th difference. The following steps show how to re-calibrate Head 3 for this example: Step 1. Click Calibration on the Main Menu Toolbar (Figure 5). Step 2. On the Calibration Menu (Figure 30), click Head 3 Up/Dn. Step 3. On the Axis Calibration Screen (Figure 33), verify that the Head 3 Up/Dn is selected by checking the Axis Name Step 4. Use the Blade Height Calibration Table (Appendix A), find the new calibration value. NOTE The mathematical equation is (Calibration Point + (Calibration Point – Measured/Cut Dimension)). For this example the calibration value will be 1.81. Step 5. Click Move To, the Command Value Screen (Figure 34) opens. Step 6. Click inside the Command Value box. Step 7. Enter the value found in the Blade Height Calibration Table (1.81 for this example). Step 8. Click ENTER. Step 9. Click START MOVE on the Command Value Screen (Figure 34). Step 10. Click DONE on the Command Value Screen (Figure 34).
