19 AutoMill HP ™ P R O D U C T M A N U A L EN 4. Calibration Calibration is the process of setting or correcting the located positions of each moving axis based on an unvarying point of measurement. Performing calibration will insure the AutoMill HP is cutting accurately across all possible machine setups. ! WARNING Failure to follow the step by step calibration procedure may cause the blades to come in contact with other moving parts on the saw. The AutoMill HP has a Home System feature in which each moving axis will automatically move to its hard stop in under two minutes. The Home System feature will be prompted each time the saw power is cycled. NOTE This does not mean re-calibration is required each time the saw power is cycled. The saw retains the position of each axis in the motion controller. Once the entire saw has been properly calibrated it is only necessary to adjust individual axes as they begin to lose calibration. To ensure maximum cutting accuracy, all calibration processes must be performed with 2x4's that are straight and free from defects. Straightness can be determined by laying the 2x4 in the carriage rail on the saw. Any gaps between the lumber and the rail will indicate that the 2x4 is not straight. Calibrate the AutoMill HP in the following order: 1st Angles – Section 1.3 (Head 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) 2nd In/Outs – Section 1.4 (Head 2, 4, 5) 3rd Up/Downs – Section 1.5 (Head 1, 3, 5) 4th Length – Section 1.6 (Carriage) ! WARNING Mechanically adjusting/altering the saw will violate the Alpine Equipment Warranty. Do not change any factory settings unless instructed by Alpine Equipment Technical Support. 4.1. Calibration Menu ! WARNING It is important that the saw is properly maintained and each axis is free of lumber or debris before beginning the homing procedure. Saw damage or false positioning of axes can result if there is debris in the machine. It is required to Home the AutoMill HP on startup. Figure 29 will appear, click OK. Figure 29 Once OK is clicked, the homing procedure begins. Each axis moves to its hard stop location. Upon completion of the homing procedure the saw program will know the location of each axis. From the Main Menu, open the Calibration Menu (Figure 30) by clicking the Calibration button on the Main Menu Toolbar (Figure 5). Figure 30 Each tile shown on the Calibration Menu (Figure 30) controls an axis of calibration. On each tile there is a colored circle in the top right comer. The color of the circle will indicate the status of each axis. • Red – Axis not homed/not ready for calibration • Green – Axis properly homed/ready for calibration
