26 ALS 4.0 XE P R O D U C T M A N U A L EN CAT Length Adj – This adjustment is for the unique circumstance of single bevels on both ends that are parallel to each other that occurs when cutting CATS (filler members at the pitch break between step down hip trusses). Adjustments with LEADING and TRAILING Data - A "90 Deg Bevel" refers to a bevel on a square cut end on one end (like the bottom chord of a hip jack). A "Non-90 Deg Bevel" refers to a bevel on one end with a plumb cut (like the top chord of a hip jack). These adjustments only apply to pieces with a bevel (single or double) on them. The length adjustments control the overall length of the piece and the centerline (CL) adjustments control the bevel centerline on the thickness of the lumber for double bevels. LEADING and TRAILING are for bevels on the front or back ends of the board as it goes through the saw. Positive/negative numbers make the length longer/shorter and the CL higher/lower. The location of the CL is measured from the bottom of the board as it goes through the saw. Sngl Bev Back Face Len Adj – An adjustment for the length of a piece with a single bevel where the bevel face is on the back (or bottom) as the piece goes through the saw. "Front Face" is the same adjustment for a front (or top) bevel. Rip Valley Length Adj – Adjusts the length of a piece with a bevel rip along the long side dimension. It would be best to check this length using a ripped valley piece with a butt cut on both ends – even if you don't normally cut these pieces with butt cuts. Feather cuts are very difficult to measure accurately. Rip Valley Offset – Allows you to control how deep the rip is set on the piece. Normally, the saw will rip these pieces so that the eased edge of the lumber is still on the piece after the rip. If you want it to rip deeper or shallower than that, use this adjustment. SAVE – Make sure you save all data before exiting this screen. CANCEL – Exit without saving any data. Figure 36 3.6.9 Bevel Options (9) These values allow you to make adjustments to bevel cutting. Begin bevel cutting with all these values set to 0 and adjust only if you are having trouble with bevel centerlines or overall length of bevel pieces. Always cut three or four like pieces before deciding about the amount of adjustment. Warped lumber can significantly affect both centerlines and overall length of bevel pieces. Be very careful that you select the adjustment you need to make, and that you keep track of the bottom and top of the board. It's easy to get confused with this process. Get help if you need it. Bevel Spacing – Controls the amount of space between pieces when they are laid out on the stock where at least one of the pieces has a bevel condition. Leave this value at 0 unless you are having trouble with bevel cuts that encroach on adjacent pieces. Floor Web Length Adj – These adjust the overall length of a member that has a double bevel on both ends. The "plunge" adjustments are for members that are long enough that all four bevel cuts use the plunge cutting process. Shorter pieces will require one of the bevels to use the "sweep" cutting process.
