31 ALS 4.0 XE P R O D U C T M A N U A L EN 3.7.4 Nesting Found in Figure 28 of Section 3.5.3, these options turn on the nesting function for the type of joint interfaces shown. If nesting is turned off, the computer will leave a small gap between the pieces. Figure 42 3.7.5 Non-Optimize Look Ahead Non-Optimize Look Ahead creates a moving window within which the Optimizer is fully functional in the Run All – Optimize Off mode. Figure 43 Enter a value greater than 1 to limit how far ahead the program will search for optimizarion. As pieces are completed, new pieces take their place in the Look Ahead. The Optimizer is fully functional, but only within a relatively small section of the TRS file. This means that some optimizing benefit will be available, while restricting the size of the job for easier sorting on the output side of the saw. NOTE Non-Optimize Look Ahead is best used when cutting truss-by- truss, or straight down a cutting list generated by truss design software. • Combine all Grades – When this option is checked, the computer will choose from all pieces of the same size without regard to a grade requirement. Make sure that the highest grade required for the job is available. ! CAUTION This will improve the waste factor, but should be used carefully to make sure that lower grade lumber is not used on pieces requiring higher grades. • Longest Pc Left – By selecting this option, the Optimizer will look through the job for the longest uncut piece that will fit on the stock each time it places a piece for cutting. This is helpful when TRS files are not sorted long to short and it is desired that the longer pieces to be cut first for stacking. NOTE Longest Pc Left will work when the optimizer is on or off, but its usefulness will be limited by the Non-Optimize Look Ahead setting (refer to Figure 44). Alpine recommends setting this value greater than 2 when using Longest Pc Left without the optimizer on. See section 3.8.5 for more information on the Non-Optimize Look Ahead. • Cut All Within Size – Allows cuts to be organized by width of lumber. All 2x4 pieces will be cut before the saw asks for a 2x6, 2x8, etc. • Crown Up – This option will tell the saw software that top and bottom chords should not be flipped for nesting. It may be useful to select this option so all board labeling will be facing up during assembly on the tables. • Truss by Truss Cutting – Turning this option on will prompt a screen listing the individual trusses within the job. Select the specific truss or trusses required and when cutting begins, the saw will cut all of the pieces from the selected truss regardless of where they are located in the TRS file. This option can be used to simplify the lumber sorting process. Each truss will be cut one at a time and can be sorted and stacked accordingly.
