Lockout Tagout Always perform OSHA lock-out, tag-out when servicing equipment. This includes power and air. De-energize and de-pressurize all systems that hold current or air pressure. Turn off electric power at the breaker. Turn off air pressure. Know Where E-Stop Switches are Located If equipment malfunctions or a situation becomes present where immediate shutoff is necessary. Employees should be trained on where to find Emergency Stop buttons and how to use them properly. Maintenance should be notified each time E-Stop is depressed and the cause should also be noted. Keep Equipment Guards in Place Defeating safety systems can cause serious injuries. Avoiding safety guards could cause operator injury. Notify maintenance personnel immediately if machine guards are missing or damaged. Do not operate equipment that is missing guards. Do not, under any circumstance, reach around a machine guard while equipment is in operation. Never Modify Equipment Modification could damage equipment or cause it to operate improperly. Modified equipment could cause a safety risk to operators. Never modify equipment without approval from Alpine. Never operate modified equipment unless the modification was approved by Alpine. Clothing and Jewelry Loose clothing could be caught on moving machine parts. Jewelry, including rings, should never be worn when operating equipment. Roll up loose sleeves. Tuck in shirt tails. Remove all jewelry before operating equipment. Wear Gloves To avoid splinters, employees handling wood products should wear protective gloves. Electrical components and moving parts become hot during normal operating conditions. Be cautious and wear insulated gloves when working with these components. See ANSI Standard 105-2011 for specifications on hand protection. Inspect Equipment Daily Broken or worn machine parts can cause damage to equipment. Never use equipment if you are unsure about its operational condition. Make note of any parts that look worn or broken and notify plant maintenance immediately. Stop using equipment immediately if any safety devices are broken or disabled.
