Prior to performing any work on the RollerPress, verify that all power to the machine has been turned off following OSHA-approved lockout/tagout procedures (OSHA REGULATION 29 CFR 1910.147). To verify damage to the shaft, key or sprocket, follow steps 1-5 below to remove the sprocket: Step 1 – Complete Steps 1-3 of the chain removal process (Section 5.3). Step 2 – Remove suspected sprockets using a gear puller. Step 3 – Inspect the shaft, sprocket, key, and keyway for wear. Step 4 – Replace/repair if needed. Step 5 – Reattach the chain to sprockets following steps 4-6 in Section 5.3. 5.4. Replacing the Gearbox ! WARNING Electricity can kill. Prior to performing any work on the RollerPress, verify that all power to the machine has been turned off following OSHA-approved lockout/tagout procedures (OSHA REGULATION 29 CFR 1910.147). ! WARNING It is recommended to hire a qualified electrician to follow these procedures. To replace a damaged gearbox with a new one, follow steps 1-11 below: Step 1 – Remove the roller chain by following steps 1-3 in Section 5.3. Step 2 – Remove wiring from the motor connection box. Step 3 – Remove the top nuts from threaded gearbox mounting posts. Step 4 – Lift motor/gearbox from press (straight up). Step 5 – Remove motor/gearbox from mounting plate. Step 6 – Remove sprocket from motor/gearbox (refer to section 5.5). Step 7 – Mount the new motor/gearbox to mounting plate. Step 8 – Mount the motor/gearbox assembly to press and tighten in original location. Step 9 – Remount sprocket to gearbox shaft (realign sprocket to existing sprockets using shim material for spacing). Step 10 – Complete steps 4-6 of chain removal (Section 5.3). Step 11 – Reattach wires to motor. ! CAUTION Pay special attention to proper voltage wiring schematic (Appendix B).
