Adjusting the Gap Between the Rollers ! WARNING Electricity can kill. Prior to performing any work on the RollerPress, verify that all power to the machine has been turned off following OSHA-approved lockout/tagout procedures (OSHA REGULATION 29 CFR 1910.147). ! WARNING When adjusting the roller gap, the rolls must be supported at all times using a forklift or other suitable lifting device. Failure to properly support the rolls could result in a serious injury or fatality. The normal gap between the rollers is set at the factory to 1-15/32". If a different thickness of lumber is being processed, it may become necessary to adjust this gap. The gap can be adjusted by adding or removing shims from the top roller only. Follow steps 1-3 before increasing or decreasing the gap: Step 1 – Remove power from the machine and use OSHA-approved lockout/tagout procedures (OSHA REGULATION 29 CFR 1910.147). Step 2 – Remove the guards on each end of the machine. Step 3 – Loosen the roller drive chain by loosening the tensioner sprocket nuts (Figure 13). Figure 13 Chain Tensional System 5.1.1. Increasing the Gap: ! WARNING The rolls must be supported at all times using a forklift or other suitable lifting device. Failure to properly support the rolls could result in serious injury or fatality. Step 1 – Place a steel or aluminum bar about 1-¼" thick between the upper and lower rolls, approximately 12 inches from each end. Step 2 – Loosen the two bolts that hold the upper roller bearings only enough to remove the shims necessary (Figure 14). ! CAUTION Do not remove these bolts.
