16 RollerPress P R O D U C T M A N U A L EN Step 10 – Run a test board through the machine to verify the roller gap. The boards should be run at three places on the roller: 12 inches from the right end, in the middle and 12 inches from the left end. 5.1.2. Decreasing the Gap: ! WARNING The rolls must be supported at all times using a forklift or other suitable lifting device. Failure to properly support the rolls could result in a serious injury or fatality. Step 1 – Insert two steel or aluminum spacer blocks (1/32" thinner than the desired gap) between the upper and lower rolls approximately 12 inches from each end. Step 2 – Loosen the two bolts that hold the upper roller bearing in place. Lower the roll until it rests on the spacer blocks (Figure 14). ! CAUTION Do not remove these bolts. Step 3 – Install steel shim material between the bearing and the bearing mount plate (Figure 14). ! CAUTION Maintain the same gap thickness on both ends of the machine. Step 3 – Remove enough shim material to obtain the desired gap between the rollers. Step 4 – Lift the top roll with a forklift or other suitable lifting device. Step 5 – Insert two steel or aluminum spacer blocks (1/32" thinner than the desired gap) between the upper and lower rolls approximately 12 inches from each end. Step 6 – Lower the roller and let it rest on the spacer blocks. Step 7 – Install the needed steel shim material between the bearing and the bearing mount plate (Figure 12). ! CAUTION Maintain the same gap thickness on both sides of the machine. ! CAUTION Failure to use steel shim material will adversely affect the pressing capacity of the machine. Step 8 – Tighten the bearing bolts and check gap to verify the desired dimension; the spacer block should slip in and out of the gap (as a feeler gauge would). Step 9 – Adjust the roller chain (refer to section 6.2) and replace chain guards. Figure 14 Increasing/Decreasing the Gap
