10 alpineitw.com (800) 521-9790 GENERAL INFORMATION DESIGNER INSTRUCTIONS AND NOTES These instructions and notes serve to notify the Designer of the Alpine Construction Hardware product instructions which must be carefully and completely followed. All general notes, design instructions/notes and installation instructions, all manufacturer's product-specific installation instructions, governing codes and standards, specifications and drawings (including shop drawings) must be considered prior to and throughout the design process. 1. The term "Designer," as used throughout this catalog, includes, but is not limited to, a design consultant, design technician, engineering and/or architectural professional, material specifier, customer support professional, or structural component manufacturer, specialist, or technician whose function includes, but is not limited to, structural member design, structural component design, layout design, material take-offs, estimating, manufacturing of components, members or systems, and/ or coordination of the involved elements. Alpine Construction Hardware does not select or participate in the selection of the Designers who use this catalog. The purchaser is solely responsible for the Designer's use or misuse of this catalog and the information contained herein. 2. All connected members, systems and related structural elements, including connections, shall be designed and verified by the Designer. Alpine Construction Hardware shall have no responsibility or liability for the services provided by the Designer, who shall be solely responsible for their work. 3. Alpine Construction Hardware shall rely on the Designer to structurally evaluate and determine each connection, supported member limitations, and supporting member limitations, before specifying one of its products, which specification shall be based solely on the information supplied by Designer. Designer's information may be relied on by Alpine Construction Hardware without it engaging in any independent verification of its completeness and/or accuracy. 4. Alpine Construction Hardware shall rely solely on the Designer's information to determine the allowable design load for the wood members forming the connections. The information supplied by the Designer to Alpine must evaluate and include all wood members for shear, tension and other structural capacities to ensure the metal connector load can be appropriately carried within all governing standards, codes, design criteria and guidelines. 5. Allowable load tables are based on Allowable Stress Design (ASD) and consider load duration factors in accordance with the current National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS). The National Design Specification for Wood Construction can be found at http://www.awc.org/standards/nds.php. 6. All installations should be designed only in accordance with the allowable load tables, governing standards, codes, design criteria, guidelines and the information in this catalog. 7. Unless specifically noted, wood shear is not considered in the allowable loads given. When wood shear is limiting, it is the Designer's responsibility to reduce allowable loads accordingly. 8. Alpine Construction Hardware allowable loads tables and product specifications in this catalog are intended to be used only with Alpine Construction Hardware products. Designer's specifications for Alpine Construction Hardware products must include a provision that Alpine connectors are required. 9. Designer shall verify that supporting member depth and width are sufficient to enable proper fastener installation. Designer shall also verify that supporting members provide sufficient top flange bearing length where applicable. 10. Code testing data is available from Alpine Construction Hardware upon written request for all products that are code tested.
