29 ALS 4.0 P R O D U C T M A N U A L EN 3.14 ALS 4.0 and Ranger System The Ranger RS is a lumber delivery system designed to feed dimensional lumber to ALS 4.0. It has the capability to dispense boards from multiple units of lumber. Each unit can be of a different size, length or grade. The Ranger RS works along with the ALS 4.0 to become a fully automated feeding and cutting system. All personnel that are involved in the installation, operation and maintenance of the Ranger RS and ALS 4.0 system must read both the Ranger RS and ALS 4.0 manuals. NOTE Start the Ranger System a minimum of 5 minutes prior to starting the ALS 4.0 3.14.1 ALS 4.0 Set-up 3.14.1.1 Connection to the Ranger system: After the operating program of the ALS 4.0 and Ranger RS start and the system is in home position, the setting screen will appear as below. The Ranger Deck and Ranger Trolley: Auto mode should appear on the top bar of the ALS 4.0 operating screen if the ALS 4.0 and Ranger are connected properly. 3.14.1.2 Entering data into the lumber screen Using the touch screen or mouse, the operator activates the auto mode icon, and then the current stock length icon, the screen below will allow the operator to enter length, quantity, grade of lumber and station number. The operator can press the load manual control icon to reach the menu screen if he or she wants to monitor the status of the Ranger through the ALS operating screen. NOTE An operator cannot assign two stations with the same station number. Load Manual Control The Menu Screen Ranger Status Box
