5 EQUIPMENT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS EN AREA Tells where hazards may occur. HAZARD Tells what the hazard is. SAFEGUARDS Tells how to avoid the hazard. Know Where E-Stop Switches are Located If equipment malfunctions or a situation becomes present where immediate shutoff is necessary. Employees should be trained on where to find Emergency Stop buttons and how to use them properly. Maintenance should be notified each time E-Stop is depressed and the cause should also be noted. Heavy Equipment Equipment is heavy and difficult to handle. Use proper equipment to move and install equipment. Contact Alpine Customer Service with any questions about moving or installing equipment. Never work alone when moving or installing Alpine equipment. EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION Eye Protection While operating any Alpine Equipment, safety glasses are required to be worn. Cutting equipment creates sawdust, which can end up in your eyes if you are not protected. Be aware of the possibility of flying debris. See ANSI Standard 287.1-2010 for specifications on safety eyewear. Safety Shoes Wearing safety shoes will help prevent toe and foot injuries. Nail plates are commonplace in truss manufacturing facilities. Wearing safety shoes can protect your feet if you a step on a nail plate. Wear Gloves To avoid splinters, employees handling wood products should wear protective gloves. Electrical components and moving parts become hot during normal operating conditions. Be cautious and wear insulated gloves when working with these components. See ANSI Standard 105-2011 for specifications on hand protection. Wear Respirator Wear a respirator when using compressed air around sawdust. EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION Hearing Protection When operating equipment, wear hearing protection.
