14 GOOD CONNECTIONS | Summer 2019 Unexpected downŸme for maintenance and repairs will cost a component manufacturer thousands of dollars in labor and missed opportuniŸes each year. DiagnosŸcs provide a simple way to minimize the Ÿme a machine is down. Alpine's AutoSet Plus comes with a self- diagnosŸcs program. The machine will alert when there is an issue and provide a system map highlighŸng where the error has occurred along with a list of acŸons to take to fix the problem. "The addiŸon of self-diagnosŸcs prevents common trial and error scenarios that oLen occur when trying to locate a broken part in complicated machinery", explains Elizabeth Lisiecki, Equipment Business Manager, Alpine. "In the unlikely event of a failure, on- screen diagnosŸcs pinpoint the error to help get the tables up and running quickly. This leads to more producŸvity and lower operaŸng costs throughout the life of the machine." The component building industry is facing a lack of skilled labor. When labor is in limited supply, data becomes a valuable asset. The last phase of the industrial revoluŸon was to replace human, mechanical moŸon with machines. The current phase is replacing brain/thought power with arŸficial intelligence to help reduce complexity. With the AutoSet Plus' on-screen diagnosŸcs, Alpine has created an asset data model that is presented in a format that allows the customer to easily understand the informaŸon and use it to quickly resolve any issues that occur. System topology allows the user to quickly pinpoint a breakdown. A code Ÿed to a list of trouble shooŸng/repair steps guides the user through the steps necessary to complete the repair and get the machine back to producing trusses. In November 2018, Schneider Electric held an InnovaŸon Summit in Atlanta. One of the facts quoted pertained to the results of a survey of CEOs, "All agree connecŸvity is necessary, 16% have a plan, 5% are acŸng. Leaders invest more to get a compeŸŸve advantage". Following the ITW business model of customer backed innovaŸon, Alpine is working with its customers to define and develop leading products for the component manufacturing industry. Alpine Equipment Engineering is invesŸng in new technologies to help its equipment customers get the compeŸŸve advantage with condiŸon-based maintenance that is more producŸve than preventaŸve. The Alpine AutoSet Plus automated jigging system is available with 4 or 8 automated pucks per table. It features the SmartView overhead projecŸon system and the RAM EasyRider trackless gantry system which has been updated to include new warning and safety features. UNPLANNED DOWNTIME REDUCED WITH THE AutoSet Plus AutoSet Plus Topography DiagnosŸcs Make the Difference Elizabeth Lisiecki, Business Manager, Equipment Based in Glenview, IL, she manages equipment NPD and Alpine MarCom.
